YOUR DESKTOP. YOUR DATA.
Privacy
DeskPet is a Mac app that keeps your data on your Mac. It has no accounts and no analytics, and it sends nothing anywhere unless you turn on one of the optional features below. This page covers the DeskPet app and this website. Last updated 21 October 2026.
What's stored on your Mac
Everything DeskPet keeps lives on your Mac, in your user account:
- Your data in
~/Library/Application Support/DeskPet/: water and focus logs, notes, tasks, reminders, progress, your pet (deskpet-data.json,pet.json) and your chat history (chat.json). - Preferences (pet size, sounds, shortcuts, voice options) in macOS preferences for
app.deskpet.DeskPet. - Secrets in your macOS Keychain, never in files or preferences: your own AI API key (if you add one), and your license key with this Mac's activation ID.
DeskPet doesn't take screenshots, log keystrokes, read your clipboard in the background, or access your files or calendar. It reads the clipboard only when you click a Paste button.
Voice is processed on your Mac
- The microphone turns on only while you hold or tap the talk button (or the push-to-talk shortcut). It never listens in the background.
- Speech is turned into text with Apple's speech recognition on your Mac, by default. Only if you turn off Keep speech recognition on this Mac in Settings › Voice may Apple's speech service process it instead, under Apple's privacy policy.
- DeskPet doesn't save recordings. Spoken replies use the voices built into macOS.
Optional services that can receive data
Each of these is off until you choose to use it:
- Anthropic (Claude AI chat), only if you add your own API key or a server address in Settings › AI. Then it receives: the messages you send in chat (typed, or the text of what you said), your pet's name and your local time. It sees tasks, notes or stats only when you allow it in Settings › AI, and only the specific results it asks for. Simple commands like "log 300 ml" run on your Mac and are never sent. Anthropic handles this under its own policies and your API agreement.
- Dodo Payments (purchases and license). Dodo is our payment provider: checkout, payment and receipts happen on Dodo's site. When you activate a license key, DeskPet sends Dodo the key and your Mac's name, then re-checks the key about once a week. No license data is sent during the free trial.
- Apple speech service: only in the case described under Voice above.
The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
This website
- We use Microsoft Clarity on this website (not in the app) to see how visitors use the page, through heatmaps and session replays. Clarity uses cookies and collects things like clicks, scrolling, device and browser type, and approximate location, under Microsoft's privacy statement. You can block it with your browser's tracking protection or by clearing cookies.
- The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser). Fonts load from Google Fonts, and the download is served by GitHub.
How to delete your data
- Everything at once: in DeskPet, open Settings › Privacy & Data › Delete all DeskPet data. This erases your notes, tasks, logs, progress, chat history, preferences and saved AI key. You can Export my data first.
- AI key: Settings › AI › Remove. Chat history: Settings › AI › Clear chat history.
- License: Settings › License › Deactivate on this Mac. This removes the activation from Dodo as well as from your Mac.
- Uninstalling completely: quit DeskPet, move DeskPet.app to the Trash, and delete
~/Library/Application Support/DeskPet. In Keychain Access, delete items namedapp.deskpet.DeskPet.anthropicandapp.deskpet.DeskPet.license. In Terminal, rundefaults delete app.deskpet.DeskPetto remove preferences. - Data you sent to Anthropic or Dodo is kept under their policies. For purchase records, contact us below and we'll ask Dodo to remove what can be removed.
